Restoration and conservation of oil, tempera and acrylic paintings.

Old pictures often become dulled and muted by dirt, smoke, clouded varnish etc. This sometimes happens to such an extent that the picture is hardly visible any more. Restoration refers to the removal of surface dirt and discoloured layers of varnish, the treatment of the support (canvas, wood or paper), the replacement of missing portions while imitating the original through the sympathetic use of similar pigments, or building up fragments of sculpted or moulded areas of an art work.

All things being equal, the life expectancy of a painting is much longer than the life of a man. Therefore people do not really own a painting. Ruther, they only take care of it while they live, and pass it on to a new generation which in turn will be grateful. While paintings inspire people, they are at the same time a good investment. And it's our responsibility to restore and maintain a painting to its best condition. Where requested we provide a full report on a state of the art piece and the restoration work carried out. The major cost of any restoration work is time. Anastasia Alexander Art Restoration cannot offer "quotations" or fixed prices for specific restoration work, as the techniques used in painting vary considerably from one painting to another. This is true even in the case of different works by one artist.

Because of the uniqueness of every painting, estimates by telephone cannot be given without our first having seen and inspected the art work.

Anastasia Alexander Art Restoration will be happy to examine your painting as well as carry out any restoration you require.
